Yeah, I've been having these same problems on my Macbook (no I haven't).

Would you believe that when I did have a Big Slow of my own, I defeated a virus? Shocking, I know. I can't remember the details, but it'd put you in shutdown randomly.

Its pretty rediculous. What really kills me if the fucker was actually sitting on the Mezco forums, that's pretty terrible. I'm sure more reputable and "secure" sites have been compromised in the past, but still.

Anyway, the point I was trying to make is it's not worth the effort. Cracked softwarez and the like are just asking for trouble down the road. I'll do any "necessary" pirating on a PC I'm not relying on for other things.

The best hacks/cracks are the ones implimented with Keygens. So long as you can isolate the Keygen program itself or run it someplace you dont give a shite about, or if you trust the souce, you're fine. The way they go about that is just generating a product key from the original manufactures. It's basically an algorithm that creates a valid key just like you'd get if you purchased the software. Then you simply download a trial edition from the original makers and when it asks you if you want to "run the trial" or "activate", you choose activate, plug in the pirated product key, and it recognizes it as being real. At that point you have a full OFFICIAL version of the program without paying.

It's when the software itself is hacked by inserting a manipulated file or exe into one of the programs folders. At that point, unless you can comprehend the coding to determine whether or not anything malicious has been added, you would never know until it's too late. This is why I cringe when people pirate OSs. There's just way too many places something can be hidden.

The Invention of Lying-7/10
It starts off pretty great until he becomes world famous, then the movie just takes itself way too seriously. Pretty much just becomes a snuff on religion after that.

Also, fuck that scene with his mom. FUCK UNDERCOVER SAD PARTS IN COMEDIES.

That said *SPOILERS*

Though logically it makes more sense that lying came to him when it did, I would've preferred it would've happened when he was with his mom while she was scared of dying.

*END SPOILERS*

So yea, great start, but dropped off for me later on.

Gervais said in an interview that the whole point of that scene was to show that sometimes lying is the better thing to do. Telling the truth then served absolutely no purpose.

Angels and Demons
I thought it was completely meh. The only part I loved the hell out of was *SPOILERS*

The anti-matter explosion. That was awesome.

*END SPOILERS*

Finally some character development in the third episode. I think the first two episodes were the "origin story" type and visual muscle flexing, but now that everyone has a taste of the action they can expect throughout the series, and we know the plight of Spartacus they can get on with the story telling. A good two thirds of the ep were character development monologues and flashbacks about some of the gladiators' history.

Crixus falling in love with a slave girl, Barca being from a warrior tribe that was captured by the Romans and forced to face each other one by one until only he and the Chief, his father, were left. Doctore being the only man to ever face the most feared Gladiator of all time and live (and probably how he got that nasty scar on his face). Some of it may seem cliche, but at least their not letting all the characters be completely two-dimensional.

The first 30 minutes or so of Sixteen Candles. It's amazing how in those days teenagers in movies actually looked like teenagers in high school: badly dressed, skin problems, braces, bad facial hair. Nowadays everyone looks like a model that went through 4 hours worth of makeup, and the only "real" looking teens are completely exaggerated in appearance and played up as comic relief. Anyway, this movie features what looks like a 12-year old John Cusack. Worth it for that alone. I plan on watching the rest later as it is PVR'd.

I told myself I wouldn't do this, but...

Avatar: Formulatic plotlines, mediocre acting, predictable and bloated beyond measure. I can honestly say, as a fan of cinema, if you don't see this in theaters, you're doing yourself a major diservice. If nothing else it's an absolute spectacle for the brain. It's basically this decades Jurassic Park in terms of VFX and without a doubt the finest photorealistic rendering ever done.

Hot Fuzz - Brilliant transfer for a brilliant movie. The picture is gorgeous.

Josie and Pussycats - Rosario Dawson > RLC. An overturned bowl of soup > Tara Reid.

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths AKA Justice on Two Earths - Good. Some goofy writing here and there and a throwaway subplot for Martian Manhunter, but miles better than any of the other DC animated features aside from Wonder Woman. Speaking of, she's given a lot of screen time in the movie, but of course it comes down to Batman to save the day. Really enjoyed it. Not perfect, but a damn fine effort.

Fire whoever didn't lock in Kevin Conroy for the Batman role, however. William Baldwin does a good job, but we all know Conroy is Batman.

I thought maybe good casting decisions would help against that glaring failure.

Also, one of the characters, when he opened his mouth, I fully expected him to be voiced by Ed Asner. Not even expected, I just knew it. I don't think he ever uttered a word, though.

Up in the Air - Smart and depressing. Got a touch preachy there in the last lap and went about voicing something that could have remained unspoken yet totally understood by anyone that isn't a moron.

The Proposition - Still as stark and powerful as the first time I saw it. Some of the lines reach a bit, crossing over into that dreamy surreal territory where westerns sometimes go in search of metaphor, but nothing egregious. Wonderful movie.

Big Love Season 4 - I am an unabashed Big Love fanboy, but season 4 made some moves that I wasn't quite so pleased with. The final moments, though, and I certainly don't use this term often, were absolutely heartbreaking and redeemed the season instantly. The tone was just brilliant and you can almost see the whole breaking apart.

Zombieland - I'd heard middling things, but I liked it. It was light, something zombie movies seem to have trouble doing. I don't know if it was the unexpected Murray or the weird novelty of having somewhere I got fired from for my attitude featured so prominently, but I enjoyed it.

Though I'm ready for the zombie craze to limp off, I could go for a couple more zom-coms.

Edward Scissorhands - Somehow managed to get through my childhood without seeing this one, so I redeemed myself. Simply a good film, it had heart and soul despite being campy, which was probably the whole point. I feel like it's the kind of film no studio would ever allow you to make in this day and age, even though you can watch it and it'll still hold a candle to modern stuff.

Tim Burton does like his ludicrously-exaggerated set designs, though.

Pandorum, solely based off one of you fuckers' recommendations. Easily the worst film I've seen in a long time. Piece of shite. Almost as bad as Event Horizon. Eight out of two thousand and ten.
