Friend of mine sent me this for my birthday. I never did find the DVD when I was looking for it and I've only ever found the BD in a four pack with some other shite I didn't want.

Really liked the creepy look of this thing and I'd been itching for a figure.

The House of the Devil

Really, really great horror flick set in the 80's as a period piece. Also filmed and edited to look the part. After years of mindless torture horror and remakes, it's especially great when someone just gets it.

You saw it? I think if anyone would appreciate this it would be you.

Why do you need three copies though?

No I didn't see it. The trailer made it looks kind of boring so I passed, guess I'll check it out now though. Is that the movie with something about a babysitter and the bad guy from Robocop 2?

I didn't. I'll elaborate.

Friend of mine came over and told me about the flick. All he had to say is it was set in the 80's and I was sold. Didn't even need to see a trailer at that point. He went on to say that it was also on VHS. That gave a nostalgia stroke that drove me directly to Amazon. It was sold out. I checked ebay and the VHS alone was going for $50-70. I was crushed, and I hadn't even seen the film yet!

The next morning I went to Bestbuy, bought the BD, watched it, loved it. Went back to Google and searched every crevas of the interweb where I finally found it in stock for $30. The only way to purchase the VHS at retail was to get it bundled with the DVD. There never was a BD/VHS set.

That's the basic premise, yes.

I will say this as per the first part of your comment. It is an extremely sloooooow burn, but in my opinion that makes it all the better. There was a point about midway through where I was on the edge of my seat nervously laughing. Every corner the main actress walked around, every door she opened, every creak in the floorboards had me waiting for something to happen.

I'm not gonna place the film too high on a pedestal. It's far from perfect, but if I had to compare it to something, I would be so bold as to use early Hitchcock and Polanski in the same sentence with this film.

Then I'm interested.

Went to TRU today and found some new Muggs. Probably going to be just these two, unfortunately. Still nice to have a couple of new ones.

That War Machine one is pretty damn cool, I must say.

Quote from the director of The House of the Devil:

Quote:
When it's bloody, it's very bloody.

The movie isn't about what you see, it's what you don't see, that in my opinion is far creepier. It's what horror used to be before this new wave of rubbish came about. In other words, if a teenager from the Saw Generation were to watch this, they would be bored in about 8 mins.

Awesome. The last horror movie I really loved was The Orphanage, so I could go for seeing something new.

This thing, because it was becoming increasingly obvious that I could not live without it. This is not my picture.

I've been playing through a bunch of old school type Jap RPGs recently on the DS (Dragon Quest remakes, Chrono Trigger). I wanted to see what a shiny modern one looked/played like in the terrifying future world of 2010. I have a high tolerance level for this sort of shite. Not played a new Final Fantasy game since FFVIII so I'm extra intrigued.

I've read there is a great deal of funneling and bottlenecking. I've never played any game in the Final series except Final Fight and it was a corker!
